Laser hair removal treatments for men are increasingly popular, and for good reasons. Over 40% of my clients are now men!
Today with our fast paced lifestyles we seem to have less time for the simple but often time consuming things such as “grooming”. The trick is to look impeccably groomed without spending hours in front of the mirror. A daily routine that is quick, simple, and low maintenance.
For men, facial hair, hair on the front and back of the neck, hair on top of the shoulders and hair on the back needs to be maintained. Men do not want ingrown hairs on their necks and face, irritation on the neck from shaving, or hair creeping out of their well pressed dress shirt.
Grooming: the things that you do to make your appearance clean and neat. – Cambridge English Dictionary
That is where laser hair removal comes in. More and more men are turning to laser hair removal for their grooming needs. Laser hair removal for most men is a “grooming” issue. Men are tired of having the back of their necks shaved when they get their hair cut, only to have it all grow back the next week. The razor burn, irritation and ingrown hairs on the front of the neck are a thing of the past after laser hair removal. The well-groomed man does not want to go to a pool party or the beach with a tangled mess of hair on his back. Laser hair removal puts an end to these common grooming issues that most men face.
So many of the male clients I see have beards, and they are doing laser hair removal treatments for men. They are having laser hair removal treatments on their cheeks and neck. After laser hair removal their cheeks are hair free, they have a distinct beard line and smooth silky skin on their necks. After laser hair removal maintaining the beard becomes simpler and far less time consuming, and you look impeccably well-groomed.
The first step in any laser hair removal treatments for men is the evaluation. During the evaluation the color of the hair and the skin on the treatment site is looked at. The hair must have color, a blonde, red or grey hair will not be treated with the laser. The lighter the skin the better. A skin with color can be treated but it is a higher risk and will require more treatments. During the consultation the men will point out exactly which areas of the face or neck, they want treated. Once you decide to begin your laser hair removal treatments the only way to remove the hair from that point on is shaving. You cannot tweeze the hair for example, you cannot do anything that will remove the hair from the follicle.
Most of the men who come for their laser hair removal “grooming” treatments are very clear and precise on the look they want to achieve and exactly how much hair they wish to remove. They will tell me exactly how much of the hair on the front of the neck they want to remove, exactly what angle they want to achieve on the beard line etc. It is such a pleasure working with my male clientele. They are always so grateful, so respectful, and so amazed at the results.
Most common laser hair removal treatments for men
Front of the neck
When the front of the neck is treated it is often because of ingrown hairs and or irritation from shaving. Often the skin on the front the neck is red and inflamed from shaving. The sensitive skin on the neck, the daily shaving and the hair, results in a very sore, and sensitive skin.
The laser hair removal treatment will remove the hair permanently. The less hair you have, the less you shave, the less irritation you will have. At the end of the laser hair removal treatment the skin is soft and silky with no hair, no redness or irritation. You will no longer even see the pores on the neck…the skin is smooth.
Back of the neck (nape)
When men get their hair cut the barber will shave the back of the neck. After your hair cut you look well-groomed but that look is short lived. As soon as your hair begins to grow, the hair on the back of the neck returns. When you do laser hair removal for the back of the neck, that well-groomed look lasts forever.
I tell all my clients, we want it to look so natural that it looks like you never did anything at all. When doing laser hair removal for the back of the neck I follow the hairline. I will shave the hair on the neck, following the natural growth of the hairline. After laser hair removal treatment on the nape, all of the hair beyond the hairline is gone. When you are in a T-shirt or well pressed dress shirt you look impeccable without having to do anything.
The cheeks are most commonly treated for the gentlemen who have beards. The hair on the cheeks (from the beard line up) is treated with the laser. Once the laser hair removal treatments are complete the skin above the beard line is silky smooth, soft and hair free. This gives a well-groomed, impeccable look without having to maintain the hair on the cheeks ever again.
For many men the hair on the upper back and the top of the arms is a grooming nightmare. For men with hair on their shoulders/upper back, when wearing a t-shirt the hair is long and you can see it growing beyond the collar of the shirt. It is difficult to reach the top of the back to shave the hair. For men who have hair on the top of the back, it often grows right up to the hairline. Often there is no distinction between where the hair on the head ends and the hair on the neck and shoulders begins. Most men who will do laser hair removal on their shoulders will also do laser hair removal on the back of the neck.
The back is one of the most popular laser hair removal treatments for men. Most of my male clients treating their backs usually say one of the following:
- I just don’t like how it looks.
- I don’t like how it feels under my clothing.
- It is hot in the summertime and when I work out it gets sweaty.
- I was teased about it as a teenager and it makes me self-conscious.
- My wife, girlfriend, partner doesn’t like it.
Whatever the reason, laser hair removal makes dealing with the hair on the back a non-issue. Some men have told me they can’t remember the last time they felt their clothing directly on the skin, on their back. Again, it simplifies the grooming process, and once the hair is treated it is permanently removed.
Today, men are doing laser hair removal for all the same reasons the women are. It makes dealing with unwanted, problematic hair a thing of the past. The men tell me, if there is a solution to the problem of unwanted hair “Why wouldn’t I take care of it?” And that is exactly why Laser hair removal treatments for men are increasingly hugely popular.
