7 Skin care tips for the summer
There are so many little things we can all do on a daily basis to improve the overall appearance of our skin, especially in the summer time. The sun has many benefits such as Vitamin D, but it also is responsible for 90% of premature skin aging. This blog post will give you tips for affordable, easy to change routines that you can put into your summer time beauty care.
1. Wear sunscreen!
I cannot stress how important sunscreen is for your skins health. Last week on Lori’s instagram she talked about an amazing product called “All Around Safe Block by Missha”. Missha is a South Korean company that has amazing products at affordable prices.
While I was doing some research on this particular product I found out that not all sunscreens have other skin care benefits such as anti aging, sun spot protection and moisturizing properties in them. This sunscreen is SPF 50+ and is well known for its anti aging and sun damage protection. It is important to know that this sunscreen can also serve as a primer underneath your foundation to help create a beautiful makeup look while protecting your skin from the sun.
There are not many SPF foundations and primers on the market, so this product is perfect for a makeup lover like me!
2. Wear a hat and sunglasses
This may seem like a fairly obvious tip, but it can help with more than just sun damage. Yes the sunglasses and hat will protect you from the sun’s harmful rays but it will also help you with wrinkles. I never tan my face when I am out in the sun, as I do not want the sun to age my skin.
When you are in the sun without either of these, not only will the sun cause sun damage like brown spots or burning, but it can also create crow’s feet from squinting. Wearing sunglasses or a hat is such an easy tip for anyone looking to keep their skin young and healthy this summer to follow.
3. Buy makeup with SPF built in
Unfortunately there is not a ton on the market but if you can find one that works for you and your skin type, buy it! There are some BB creams from Sephora that have SPF built into them whose quality is great. It is important to note that many of these BB creams are only SPF 15 and you will likely need to wear sunscreen as well, but it is still great to have that extra layer of protection from the sun.
4. Moisturize day and night
This skin tip is certainly useful all year round, however in order to prepare your skin for a day in the sun, using moisturizer first thing in the morning and when you come home will keep your skin vibrant, while allowing yourself to get a nice tan. I use Dr. Schrammek’s day cream every single morning, it gives my skin life and keeps it silky smooth all day.
Using exfoliants on your skin anywhere between once a week to once every two weeks is a great way to get your skin revitalized. My two favourite exfoliants are Lush’s Ocean Salt and Biophora’s Enzyme Exfoliator. Both of these products do an amazing job of revamping your skin to its fullest potential while getting rid of dry or dead skin.
6. Never use any face products with alcohol in them
So many people make the mistake of buying skin care or sunscreen products that include alcohol in the formula. Alcohol on your face can lead to premature aging and dryer looking skin. Always check what goes into your products before you put them on your face!
7. Drink tons of water
This may be my biggest beauty hack. Drinking water is so good for your body, hair, nails and skin! It has so many benefits especially in the summer time. Often when you are outside tanning you don’t always think to be drinking a bottle of water as well.
Making this change can make a huge improvement in your health both on your skin and in your body this summer. Not only is it great for your overall appearance, but also drinking a bottle of water as soon as you wake up every morning can actually improve your metabolism and your immune system.
My friends and family often make fun of me for having a water bottle with me everywhere I go, but I notice such a difference in my complexion and my energy when I am constantly well hydrated.
Think of your skin as a lifetime investment
Follow these small tips this summer and you will notice a big difference in your skins overall health. These are all very easy to follow changes you can make in your skin care and beauty routine. Keep your face out of the sun when you are outside to prevent aging and sun damage and make sure you stay well hydrated.
